Post: 3rd 80GB PS3 That Got The YLOD But This Is Different. . .

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Okay, I just want the playstation 3 communities advice on this. So, you know as it is stated in the title this has happen 2x with the YLOD and this is the 3rd time for it to happen. When I get the YLOD I use to call Sony right away thinking no hope, but after seeing $138 something for fixing a PS3 and getting another used one for it to happen again is pointless, I didn't give in or up and call sony this time.(Well I did but I didn't send it off yet because I was trying things out first). Anways, here is how it all started:

I was playing Final fantasy 13-2 and for no reason it shut off. I then quickly went to the ps3 and tried turning it back on and it wouldn't.(With my disk in there I was not giving up) So I kept trying and trying till finally it spit it out and all was well.(Except for all of those game saves which I couldn't copy because I wasn't a psn+ member.)

So, the next day I called sony told them what was going on and they sent out a box but when they got the box to my house, for some reason my ps3 started working again, so I called them and told them that I wouldn't need it repaired for it's working atm.(They said I had to wait 30days though before I could get my money back. . .)

Anyways, when It started working I bought psn+ and backed up all of my saves and was very happy lol. . After all that was done I did a full 4hour format and then did the recovery menu and did all of those options in there(All of them went to 100% with nothing wrong and it acted like it did everything right, but the one with the "Restore ps3 file system" came up (Don't remember exactly what said but said something like "Found the ps3 hard disc system corrupted going to restore" then goes to 100% seems like it fixes it, but then I do it again and says the same thing each time.

After all of that, My ps3 runs fine when I turn it on but about after 10-20 or so minutes, it shuts off automatically, but when I turn it on it starts up again the same way, with no issue to be found until it shuts off again.

----Question I Would Like To Know From Everyone Here That Has Had This Problem-----

So my main question I'd like to ask people would be this. Is it my hard drive(HDD) and if so, if I replaced it would that fix it or does it still need repair? And if it needs repair, is it worth it for that much or should I just go buy a new ps3 because the newer ones don't mess up as much as the old ones?

Thanks.

Do a barrel roll!
Actually it may be your power supply going to your ps3 , ive been reading this thread and it sounds abit like what your getting ... I think what may be happening is your ps3 is running ok , but when you start playing games it puts more strain on the power supply which if faulty will cause your ps3 to shut down, then because your ps3 has shut down it makes your ps3 do the hdd restore(so i dont think its your hdd) then it runs ok again and the cycle repeats ,,,,,, this could also explain why when you left your ps3 alone abit before sony came to repair it why it worked for longer , because it had no strain on the power supply for a longer time before use.

suggestions , it could be the power cord itself or the power connection on your motherboard. Hope This Helped You Smile
