The Playstation 3 made by Sony is in it's sixth year and there's still no sign of a Playstation 4 (PS4) being developed. It is true that game developers from all over have made some beautiful artwork and gameplay for the hardware, however, there is still much much more that can be used to make videogames look better, especially by the Kara video Quantic Dream presented this week at the GDC. Quantic Dream's David Cage told the website Game Industry International that Sony's Playstation 3 has "much more" to offer.

When Cage was asked (after seeing Kara played on a PS3) about how much power is left in the console for videogame developers to "extract" he said:

"Much more, to be honest with you. One of the reasons why we didn't show this [Kara video] a year ago was that we had discussions with Sony, and they weren't sure that we were going to show after that was going to look better than Kara. It took us a year to prove what we were going to show was a thousand times better than that."

He also said:

"So we're very far from seeing everything the PS3 can do, it's very powerful hardware. There is still a lot to do with it, people will be surprised."

Cage was a little skeptical when it came to how much power even top-notch Playstation 3 titles were using, and how much they could really use.

"That's difficult to answer. Developers use the hardware in different ways. We put the focus on very close shots and the lighting is very important to us. Other developers consider what matters the size of the landscape you can display. So different developers have different views of the hardware,"

Cage then added:

"Personally, I consider it takes two to three games on the same path to really see what you can do with the hardware. The teams discover the hardware, they start to use it. The more it goes, the more you can discover what you can do with it."

If the videogame Kara is using more of the Playstation 3's power than a lot of titles, then it's going to be great.

All this being said, you guys may think, "The PS3 is at it's peak, nobody can do anything different." Well, you could be proved wrong. The PS3 has much more power to offer and developers could take advantage of that and make videogames even better than the Uncharted franchise developed by Naughty Dog.

What do you guys think? Should developers spend more time on maximizing gaming for the PS3?

Yeah, but that would call for more ps3 exclusives, which is a good thing in my eyes.

Nice post btw.

Still depends and you can't push the hardware beyond killzone 3 and uncharted 3 both used around 95% of processes which is basically max without cutting out operating system. So yeah Kara may look like the most beautiful thing seen with the human eye but if its linear it'll be a 6 hr game or a ultra small scale free roamer with a low but bright color pallette. But yeah I could see where more process could be diverted to visuals and lighting if landscape os neglected which imo is more important for length and less repetitious purposes.

But we have seen proof that the PS3 doesn't have much power. Skyrim, anyone?

Still have more power but less RAM Gaspkay: The X360 have more RAM and now the new iPad have more RAM than the X360 and the PS3.

My phone has more ram than all 3 of those things... also though this and not to mention the 6 years outdated graphics card properties even the vita has more ram lol and a graphics chip with better processing capabilities for light and close up rendering purposes albeit not more powerful raw but still... ps3 needs an hardware update....

Hell yea, I would love to see some exclusives for our system, or maybe something that was first made for ours and then ported over to Xbox... That way our game isn't laggy and glitched up like how we get it from them.
