A good two weeks ago, a listing was made on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace revealing/announcing details for the "From Ashes" DLC built for the future third person shooter Mass Effect 3. Many fans of the franchise are furious due to the fact that the DLC (which was labeled "Day One DLC") was supposed to be included into the game, but was quickly taken out so that BioWare could make more money in the long run. If you do not buy the downloadable content, a whole character will be removed from the story line, which is an interesting thing the game developing company has done, given that the game focuses on characters and the story.

The company has stated that the DLC was developed after the game was completely finished and sent to a completely different team, meaning that it isn't exactly of their doing and the development of the DLC plus the cost isn't by them directly.

"BioWare has lied to you", a statement being thrown around by file junkies and computer wizards everywhere. This is said because after the official release of Mass Effect 3, people have been searching through the title's files and have found some pretty interesting discoveries. There has been some content found in the game disc that goes against BioWare's statements above, and more. For instance, the build which leaked in November, the official demo, and now the standard retail release of Mass Effect 3 all contain voice files for the Prothean squad member. Also, there is a full set of model and animation files for the Prothean, and the encryption on the files make it impossible to open, leaving the speculation at that. These files are just as big as DLC characters. This is suggestion that the game's art, animation, and voice files for ME3's downloadable content characters were developed at the same time of the game, not after the completion. If you're wondering what all of this means: If these files and additions to the game were made after the games release, the files (found below) would HAVE to be downloaded, not found directly from the disc itself. Here are the files found in the disc itself:

And lastly, when you decompile the Mass Effect 3's Coalesced.bin file, it reveals many things for the Prothean team member. The highlighted items below are the Prothean's HUD and "team screen images", his loadout, and and the script IDs to call when he's included in the party.

So, if you're confused and wondering why this is being brought up and posted on the internet, and why it's being taken so seriously, is because the biggest complaint from BioWare's fans were the actions they made. BioWare said that the "From Ashes" DLC was going to be automatically included in the game, but was removed, giving people the impression they were doing it to make money. And, BioWare is being held accountable for announcing that the downloadable content was made AFTER the game was, here's what we have:

"[BioWare] completed the game in January & moved onto the 'From Ashes' DLC... It takes about 3 months from 'content complete' to bug-fix, certify, manufacture, and ship game discs. In that time we work on DLC."

"The content in 'From Ashes' was developed by a separate team (after the core game was finished) and not completed until well after the main game went into certification."

"Sure. What a lot of people don’t know is that… We’ve got 150 people who worked on the Mass Effect game. When we get towards the end of the project, we get into the certification phase, and everything that we’ve ever wanted to do with the core game is actually finished. And now we just need to get it certified and put on the trucks and manufactured on discs and stuff. That takes three months or more. Three months or more for a team of 150 people, that equates to millions of dollars of development time. So we either would move on to the next game, which you might not see for several years, or we’re a multi-team studio, so they might move on to Dragon Age or The Old Republic. But we know that people really enjoyed the DLC for Mass Effect 2. So we wanted to start working on DLC."

In a nutshell: BioWare lied about the development of the "From Ashes" DLC, and when it was developed. What do you think?

Why Can't I Be MVP?
I'm not even mad,I'm just disappointed. ME1 and 2 were simply outstanding and the way they ruined this one with greed and a fucking horrendous ending it just makes me lose what respect I had for BioWare...
