Firstly, this isn't actually what will be included in the PS4. This is simply a tech demo showcasing
the possible capabilities of physics on the PS4. (and Xbox "720" as well) Its kind of silly to watch
but thinking of all the possibilities for what developers can do with this technology is fun to think
about. So check it out below and let me know your opinions.
I think this kind of stuff is pretty cool. It's also incredibly impressive how precise the fractures are in each
object. Hopefully devs take this technology into consideration in the future.
What kind of games come to mind when you watch this video? For me racing games was the first thing
that popped into my head. Sure physics in racing games is pretty top notch but in reality its all the same for every game.
Maybe this technology will keep it fresh and add never before seen things.
Its kind of impressive I wish it showed the figures they are using as pressure values on the objects to know a little bit better at the accuracy of the fractures. Honestly what comes to mind for me though is building mechanics or large falling structures in games. Could be used in a similar way as uncharted 3 sand and ocean mechanics system so the experience os different every time you play or open world games like fallout or even the destruction physics like in battlefield bad company. Could make for more playable elements in games too like breaking a glass and using a shard as a weapon against an attacker. But im mainly thinking of subtle changes that can makes games more involved and realistic. Im sure whole games could be based around this concept not to mention what something like this could do for already involved physics engines like those for mirrors edge and portal.

Thanks for a thorough description of what you were thinking
Hell, I would even play an indie game based around this technology. I wonder how long
the guy played around destroying little pieces of rocks lol

things like this are already being used , its hard to make it look real in video games in actual practical use have you played uncharted 3 ? if you have take another look at world destruction while your moving might i add in , on topic ps4 and new xbox will be able to take the new tech barly being used to farther limits due to better hardware so games in 3 years will be even more movie like great post btw

The first thing that comes to mind for me is GTA. The possibility to have an almost completely destructible map. So your in a shoot out with police, your rounds that miss and hit a building are visible for x amount of time. Or if you fire an RPG and it hits a building a chunk of that building is missing and maybe covered by plywood for x amount of time. You crash a car through the front of a building and when it blows up that shop is closed and surrounded by police tap for x amount of time, or it is collapsed and rebuilt slowly over time. The potential for weapon and vehicle customization would be mind blowing.
But when I really think about it, I do not believe that technology in the next gen systems would be able to handle that. I think we at the earliest 10 years away from that amount of destruction and repair in a game.

Yeah I agree. This video is really impressive and it is in the right direction but I don't see anything practical for
a couple years. The closest we have right now is Frostbite 2 which is phenomenal. Hopefully this technology makes
it in the future.
