(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); particularly versus, I can play campaign mode fine (though I can only join, nobody seems to join MY online campaigns), when I try to play versus, it stays at "searching for players" forever, & when I try to cancel, it stays stuck at canceling session & I have to restart the PS3, but I found a way for it to unstuck & that is to sign out of PSN.

I found a way around it, which is to join a campaign online game, finish the entire chapter, & then leave the game & go play versus (it doesn't work if I join & then leave immediately), although this method only works 50% of the time.

I have no problem playing other online games, is there something I'm missing here? do I need to forward a few ports or does the game use the same ports RE5 uses?

Happens to Me alot.
It freezes like yours do, and also when i actually join a game and im about to pick my character it freezes there too.
Im just gonna wait for the patch to fix the online.

I have seen this issue here and there. People that are in the US are having better luck with the issue, but from what I have seen people in other country are having issues connecting. I have seen people going as far changing there region and saying it helps. Others say that a patch is coming out very soon for the multiplayer issue.
