Do you try to connect using a ethernet cable or WiFi ?

Have you checked the cable works ?
Did you pick the right option wired not wireless ?
Does your router pick up the PS3 ?

Check that you gave your settings correct as in:
1. When going through setting up the network, don't go to Quick or Easy, go to Custom and select Wired Connection, the rest of the settings are automatic just scroll through.
2. Make sure the cable is good, as in test it with another piece of hardware that you know has been working properly.
3. Ensure that the cable is connected properly & the Ps3 has no problems with it, maybe the teeth on the RJ-45 have broken off so it is loose, or the Ps3 itself has some issues with detecting an Ethernet cord.
