Well it all depends what you are looking to use your console for, but honestly the ps3 works well for many uses, the main 2 being a home theater center and a gaming system.
Listing all its features would be tedious, so just to compare the differences between xbox and ps3:
Bluray (A great bluray player, cheap and works great, also it helps if you play big games (eg. La Noire) No more "Insert Disc 2 To Continue"

Bluetooth controllers (Not crappy infrared) with rechargable batteries as standard AND they use a generic mini usb cable connector, so no more forking out extra cash for rechargable batteries and a cable just to charge the damn thing!
Free Online Play.. duh
Web Browser
Doesnt destroy your dvd's when you slightly tilt the console (sorry i had to put that one in there)
And the rate or YLOD PS3's compared to RROD XBOX's is MUCH lower
i could probably google for some super nerdy facts to compare the two, but as an average user this is what i can tell you. In the end its your decision, but its going to cost you the same or even cheaper and you have all these benefits aswell.. (thats what frustrated me when i ever got involved in a console war, the only comback i would hear from xbox owners was "its much cheaper", no it simple isnt, yes the basic console (XBOX arcade before) is cheaper, but it has nothing... not even a proper hdd.. then add on the overpriced accessories, hdd, Gold subscription, etc, you have easily soared well above the price for a PS3 that comes with everything as standard)
So yeah just some helpful hints from a user :p Good luck with whatever you decide mate
