You're talking about the cord? That's most likely not the problem making it hot. Probably bad thermal paste, I had a problem with the heat sink on my computer once, took a dab of toothpaste, put it on and she works like a champ, but I don't suggest doing that for a PS3.
Im talking about a powersupply inside the Ps3... come on man you should know this!

The reason behind it is because resistors inside the power supply goes bad and then the power supply starts putting out to many volts and the whole system gets really hot. I really don't know if that is the case or not that is just what some people think. Some people also modify the power supply and say it is the best thing they have done.
Yea It just get super hot and when you touch above the plastic with the cover on top it gets warm. on my other ps3 it doesn't do this.
