(I have previously created a thread about how I was unable to update any games [You must login or register to view this content.]... but it quickly changed topics, and I decided it best if I created a new thread, and work from there.)

So the problem with my PS3.. is that I can't play large games. ( Unfortunately, when I say large... I mean pretty small too ._.) I can play any games that are small (55mb -), but can not play games that are large (100mb +?), from my multiple testings. I have been able to play a game that is 55 mb, and a game with 23 mb without any difficulty. I am also able to play PS2 games, without difficulty. However, when I start to play games larger than 55mb, (the only game I own closest to 55mb is 155 mb) my ps3 will freeze. I have tried three different hard drives, and so I believe that it's not the hard drive that is at fault.

note: Basically, any PS3 disc game won't work.. A small number of PS3 downloaded games will work.. And all my PS2 disc games work.

update: My tech-savvy friend told me to open up my PS3, clean it, then replace the thermal paste. If you think this'll work, a nice lil' tutorial on how to do it, would be nice

Definately could be a thermal issue. Goto youtube and do a search for how-to videos like: ps3 clean instructions, or, ps3 take it apart, etc, etc....

*shudders* I don't trust youtube...
All right, I'll see if I can find any cleaning tutorials
(I just hope that I don't really F* up the screws, cuz I did that when I was replacing my HDD xD)

There are plenty of good instructional videos on youtube. And, there's plenty of crappy ones.

You need to find a tutorial for taking apart your ps3. Nothing more than a couple screw drivers, notes where each screw goes and some thermal paste and some shop towels....Can of compressed air and patience.

hmm. Well, taking apart my PS3, I don't think I'd have trouble.. Just figuring out where to put the paste, and what're the shop towels for?

shop towels are for cleaning up the old thermal paste from the cpu & gpu...And, for cleaning up the dust bunnies....In all honesty, if you don't feel 100% comfortable doing this, then please don't....It would be far safer to pay someone else to do it, send it to sony perhaps, or, ask a friend....It is so easy to really screw up the motherboard with static electricity, breaking a fuse or other things....You really need to be very careful when taking apart a ps3, or any complicated piece of electronics.

If you had difficulty just replacing the HDD/and it's your first time taking apart a PS3, I would recommend sending it to a professional. There are a few reputable sellers on ebay who will do a reflow/reballing service for about 50$.

Oh, it's not that, I'm wasn't confident, I just wanted know what I was doing before I go at it.
n also, I just dissected and everything, put on the paste, all that good stuff.
It STILL doesn't work.
So, now I think that it's the blu-ray that's F*ing up.. As I know it's not dust, and it's not the heat sink.. :L
but it can still play some games.. >_<
