(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); My friend with a 3.55 ps3 agreed to trade consoles with me. I was wondering if my harddrive would be compatible with his console. My console is on 4.30, and obviously his is on 3.55.when I tried my hdd in his console it said to update his console in order to be compatible. Is there any way around this. I have no problem restoring my hdd if that's what is needed.

Wipe the HDD clean with a magnet or put it in a enclosure and format using any pc software

Simple, some what effective; Save everything you can on usb/external. Since you are on 4.30OFW there shouldn't be much that you couldn't get back on 3.55. Is the 3.55 jailbroken? If you are worried about copyrighted saves, PS+ would solve that.

The firmware is on the NAND/NOR but the hard drive knows what was the latest firmware installed. Which is the problem at hand.

I am no pro at this so, I would search the site here for a more complete answer to your question.

Also, make sure you don't have a disc in the system. IE, MW3 or something newer as the PS3 will read the disc for updates also.

yea but when you format it erases everything which defeats what he wants to do ....im pretty sure any hdd that is not native to that ps3 has to be formatted no way around this backup what you can on usb drive.... also do not put a magnet to the hdd NOT A GOOD IDEAL

The only reason I want to keep my hdd is because I bought a ps3 with substantially more memory than he did. He has 100 something gigs, I have 300 something gigs. I bought the ps3 with the most memory because I expected to JB it and have a shit load of backups to run. This is is why I really want to keep my hdd plus he said he still wants all of his data if he were to trade.
