it most likely has something to do with the controller board ( Looks like this You must login or register to view this content. ). The control board is probably connected to your original blu-ray drive lens+deck and probably doesn't register with your new laser+deck. Or maybe you plugged in the wires incorrectly into the boards or loosely (just considering every possible option).

I too had a broken blu-ray drive and so I replaced my Slim's blu-ray drive completely just to make sure and after I swapped drives the PS3 wouldn't take in the disc. So I just took the control board from my broken blu-ray drive (the lens was messed up) and just swapped it into my new blu-ray drive and it worked fine and started taking in discs.

My recommendation is to just return the lens+deck you bought and just buy a completely new/refurbished blu-ray drive for your PS3 model (fat or slim?). It should be within the price range of $60-$80.

Fixed it Smile It was a fat 80gb. Reading discs like a champ now! And taking in discs properly. I swapped the old laser with the new laser. (Only the part that runs along the rails, inside of the actual blu ray drive) I am guessing that part of the whole deck that I tried swapping in the first place was married to the PS3. Other then the controller board you posted as that's on the outside of the drive and I didn't touch that at all so that wasn't it, another part must be married I think. Anyways It's working now and cost $35 for this fix, when before it wouldn't read discs at all so it was worth a little time and effort! Thanks for the response though!
