Interesting. It seems we may not have to wait for an announcement for most of the details though:

Surprising how Sony hasn't yet understood that the reason why the 360 dominated the last gen was because it was out first! It had a much bigger library when the PS3 launched, and everyone got more comfortable developing for it than the PS3, that's also why most cross platforms play a LOT better on the 360 than the PS3. I would've expected a same time frame release at least.

Why go first, when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better? But with Nintendo already out the next-gen blocks with the Wii U, can Sony hold its bottle until Microsoft announces it's next-gen?

Almost completely wrong, the Xbox 360 was easier to develop for because it WAS almost the exact same code as the PC code while the PS3 ran on a different architecture. The Cell processor was hard to code for which is why Sony has abandoned it for a AMD A8(rumor) which is a PC processor. Also the RAM limitation, both have been addressed. Time has little to do with it anymore. People will want there past accomplishments and purchases to be useful still, so really it is PSN/SEN vs Xbox LIVE.

I definitely don't disagree with you there, the PS3 is in fact terrible to develop for. I do believe that the 360 coming first had a good hand in its success, if only even in sheer numbers, which would make some sense since it came out first.

But I didn't consider it a battle between SEN and XBL, shines a pretty new light on the whole thing in my perspective.
