Rockstar co-founder Sam (no, not Dan) Houser doesn't know if the next Grand Theft Auto title after IV will properly fit onto the 360's standard-sized discs.

"One of the problems with the 360, and it affects games like Grand Theft Auto if you think about how much content we put in the actual machine, is the fact that they don't have a significantly larger storage medium than the previous systems. It's a slightly bigger DVD disc," Houser told 1up.

Then take into account that not all Xbox 360s come with a hard drive. It's here that things get super sticky. "The 360 is going to have to get 'round this issue we're talking about...hopefully, they're going to adopt one of those in the next year or so, because it's going to become more of an issue. If we're filling up the disc right now, where are we going? It's not like our games are going to get any smaller."

The delay heard round the world was mostly credited to technical issues during IV's development. Some said the 360 didn't have enough space to hold the game; others heard that the PS3 version was having big problems of its own. Whatever the case, Houser isn't telling. "Both machines are absolutely fantastic, but they both come with strengths and weaknesses. The strength of the 360 is a very, very accessible, familiar, effective environment to work in. You're making the game from the get-go, everyone understands its PC environment -- boom, off we go. It's pretty good."

Development on the PS3 version wasn't too smooth early on, however. "I think it was challenging for a lot of companies, but it's also a machine where, now that we've got comfortable with it -- I don't want to say we've cracked it, but we've got comfortable with it -- we know we can make our games."

Many have posed a big question that's on my mind, for sure: Does either version look better than the other? "There's a slight difference in the way they look," Houser admitted. "I think that's to do with really low-level technical stuff that I'm not the guy to explain. The 360 games have a certain look to them; PS3 games have a certain look to them. I like the way [the PS3] renders." He concluded, "There's a certain kind of softness without being blurry -- some warmth to it -- and then there's a certain more clinical element to how the 360 looks."

Are Sony and Rockstar Negotiating More Exclusivity?
Rumor has it...
By Dustin Rudzinski - September 26, 2009

Take this one with a grain of salt folks, as it is WAAAY out there. However it does come from a reliable source. After reporting on a few insider tips about Sony's Gamescom plans which came out to be true (Well, all but one.), we decided to try to find out what was going on for TGS. We were told not to expect too much, just a focus on the games we've already heard about. Turns out, it was pretty much just that. A showcase of games we've heard about already, as well as a new title or two. But no earth shattering news coming from anyone this TGS.

However, we did hear about some things in the future. After asking about if Agent would be shown at TGS, we were told that it would not but that "Sony and R* have something big" planned. When asked what it was, they said "something exclusive". I then thought they were unaware of Agent's exclusivity, so I reminded them and they replied "This isn't about Agent. It's a franchise that is already out.". I told them GTA would be too much of a stretch considering how good the game did on the Xbox 360, to which they replied "Money isn't always everything". Not proof that they were talking about GTA, but very suggestive.

"I don't think it will be announced this year. But what can I say is PlayStationS (accent on that S) might be the only platform to get ALL games from some big franchise."

Could it be timed exclusivity? The wording they used seems to go against that. But for a company to lose out on a 30 million system install base by not releasing the game on a rival console, that's pretty risky. The only thing I can think of, is that something like disc space limitations could be preventing them from releasing the game on DVD. A game like Grand Theft Auto cannot have disc swaps unless it prevents you from being able to freely travel from island to island. Otherwise you'd have to get up and swap discs just to ride to your girlfriend's place on the other island. Many accused Rockstar of making GTA4's game world smaller than San Andreas because of Xbox 360's DVD format limitations.

It could also just be that PS3 will be the one to get the exclusive content next time. Time will tell.

Update: Our source has clarified what they meant by the above statements. PlayStation will be the only system to get all games from a certain well known franchise... in other words, any games or DLC that is on another system will also be on a PlayStation system, and PlayStation systems will enjoy exclusive games in the series (like vice city stories). So, next year we should get any exclusive content that has been released on the 360 for GTA4. Unfortunately it isn't confirmation that we'll ever see a PS3 exclusive GTA game (Agent has to fill those shoes, let's hope it does so properly), but good to know that if you want the ENTIRE GTA experience, PlayStation platforms is the only way to go.

It is also worth mentioning, that when we asked our source about the cross game chat features rumored in firmware update 3.1, they responded with "I can confirm that cross title chat will be in firmware series 3.". That doesn't confirm 3.1, but it does still support the rumors that it is coming soon. Perhaps all the angry posts in EA's forum from the leak about them holding up cross game chat for PS3 actually had an effect... They did actually mention EA being pissed over that leak, then said "and why do you think you haven't heard anything about EA being upset?"

Rumor: Sony and Rockstar's Exclusive Grand Theft Auto PSN Deal
Rumor has it (again)...
By Dustin Rudzinski - September 29, 2009

Recently we reported on rumors of Sony and Rockstar negotiating some sort of exclusivity with an already existing franchise. Well, today we were able to uncover exactly what franchise was being hinted at.

We originally received a hint that some franchise that already exists was the focus of the deal, saying that only PlayStation platforms would be the ones to get all of the games from the series. We originally thought that a series was coming exclusively to PS3, but it looks like we had it wrong.

Today we came to find a hint that mentioned "Sega Leak", or the infamous Sega memo that leaked out recently talking about PS2 games being ported for download on PSN, as well as generating more interest from PS3 owners in PSP via PSP/PS3 interoperability. This led us to believe that the exclusivity talks are for porting all of the PS2 Grand Theft Auto games over to PS3, possibly receiving the same updated visuals as God of War Collection. If so, this would make PS3 the only system that can play ALL Grand Theft Auto games. Well, you might still need the PSP for Chinatown Wars since there is not a PS2 version planned...

Coming soon to PS3?

PSP/PS3 connectivity was also heavily stressed in the rumor. Exactly what this means is unknown. Could GTA5 allow you to take your PS3 game on the road, via remote play or side missions that effect your game on the PS3? Will this be the case with previous versions? Will we be able to play all of the older GTA PSN games on our PSP's also with remote play? There are a number of possibilities. We're not sure which it is, but we know it has something to do with PSP to PS3 connectivity.

No timeframe was given for when to expect this to be announced, but we were told not to expect to hear about it until next year.

Well this would be a megaton. Rumors are starting to circulate that GTA V will be a PS3 exclusive since Rockstar wants to include every map from previous GTA games for an epic MMO component. Apparently Rockstar feels that with the PS3 install base at 16million+ and growing even stronger, along with the PS3 blu-ray advantage for massive content storage, they would benefit from focusing solely on the PS3. Well perhaps this is the Rockstar exclusive that has been conformed to exist!

Washington (dbTechno) - According to reports, all future games from Rockstar beyond Grand Theft Auto IV will be exclusive to the PS3. GTA IV is slated to release in April on the Xbox 360 and PS3, but that may be all the love Xbox 360 owners get from Rockstar.

They stated in a report in Play Magazine “The game is both PS3 and 360, but Rockstar has suggested that all further game development is going to be PS3 exclusive.”

This has led many to believe that Rockstar is planning to once again be an exclusive developer for the Sony camp with all future games.

This is still a rumor at this point, but it is definitely something to take under consideration.

Rockstar putting out the past Grand Theft Auto releases on the PS2 gave the Sony console a huge advantage over the original Xbox console.

This has also led some ot speculate that Sony has put together another deal with Rockstar to get all future Grand Theft Auto titles exclusive to the PS3, much like they had with the PS2.

Only time will tell, but it is interesting to say the least.

I Beleive they should have 5 story's from the main characters derspective and then from there you pick nico,Cj,tommy,or the others! and then they should all be in a battle of the cities!

This has been seen in a Official Xbox 360 magiziene. It clearly stated that GTA 5 WILL BE A PS3 EXCLUSIVE.And Gears of War 3 and Mass Effect WILL BE HEADING TO THE PS3 BUT NOT HALO.Microsoft only had rights to the first 2 Gears of War games,And that Microsoft only owned the rights to the first Mass Effect game. But Microsoft was smart enough to buy all of the rights to the HALO franchise. So in the end of it all the PS3 is the best console BY YEARS.

According to the November 2007 issue # 76 of the Official Xbox Magazine, Sony has secured the next Grand Theft Auto, which would be number 7 in the series, to be a true exclusive to the PlayStation 3.

Clearly Rockstar were fed up with the limitations of the 360 GPU, CPU last gen DVD media, and lack of standard HDD.

No doubt GTA Next will make GTAIV look like a Dreamcast game now that Rockstar can fully harness the power of PS3.

Welcome home GTA.

new news from ign found and posted by Sabres9
A new Grand Theft Auto game will be coming next year, reports industry analyst Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities.

Pachter's latest reports say that Take-Two has been developing a new title in the series - not an expansion - for over a year and that the publisher plans to release the game next year or possibly 2011 at the latest.

"Management declined to state when the game will launch, but has confirmed to us that the game is in development, has been for over a year, and is using the same game "engines" as the last version," Pachter wrote.

"Management also told us that the team at Rockstar North is highly motivated to get the game out, and that the team understands that its highest payday will come from working on GTA instead of any other game. When we do the simple math, we conclude that the next installment is likely to be completed by some time in 2010, although given the frequency of game delays, it is not clear that it will necessarily come before October 31, 2010."

"However, it is clear to us that the next version of GTA will arrive before the end of [Fiscal Year 2011]," he added.

Alan Lewis, VP of corporate communications for Take-Two, declined to comment on the report saying: "We only provide comments on information released directly by the Company. It is our policy to not comment on speculation by the media or analysts."

They took the fun out of the game with trying too make it too realistic on GTA 4. Hopefully now they will make it fun and keep the same graphics minus the bowling alleys, etc.
