First download the PlayStation app from the Google Play Store or Apple Store and install on your mobile or tablet.

Then sign into a psn account you already have.

Navigate to the add friend option. Then in the search for friend name, type in the name you want.

Any and all psn names that include what you entered will show up. This will even show psn banned accounts because the name is still taken.

Now mo more aggravation of being on the computer or ps3 and entering name after name just to see its already taken. You'll be able to get it picked and sorted out the first time.

For anyone who owns one; the same can be done on the PS Vita online but I presume most Vita owners know about this feature already.

Well, this will defeat your theory. Go on the PSN app and search for: maomusubi. If you're like me, the username won't come up. Yet the account does exist. Another one: Search up Kawaii, nothing will come up. It's a real username. It's never been on a Sony system. The PSN app is always buggy.

I'm pretty sure it works on all systems afaik.

I used to do this by just looking up PSN names on trophy sites since you can just type up names and they get added to the leaderboards or updated if they are already exist.

If none of the 2 happens, that means the name isn't used, that has always work for me at least.
