Cake is a lie
No only reason if because the PS4 was a big hit in New Zealand therefore Sony want to gather as much money as possible...

Will that increase or decrease the price of ps3 games? (Once they discontinue it in the U.S of course)

I'm sure it's due to new Zealand not doing so well on sales for PS3 any more. Over the coming year or two, you'll see this more and more.

:( ;( :'( No, they can't. I will NEVER upgrade to the PS4. I prefer the PS3 and will ALWAYS prefer the PS3. I used to play a lot of games on PSP too, such as Resistance: Retribution, Syphon Filter (Logan's Shadow, Dark Mirror and Combat Ops), Socom 1, Socom 2 and Socom 3, Motorstorm: Arctic Edge and more. Guess what? Sony shut them all down over the last few years. I also used to play Medal of Honor: Heroes 1 and 2 on PSP too, EA shut them down, but why? MOHH 1 and 2 had about 100 - 300 players on at anytime when I logged in and played. All of the games had a lot of players and users for PSP games which were almost 10 years old.

To be honest, I don't think PS3's PSN servers will be shut down; they'll most likely still be up and running until 2020 or later. This is mainly because Sony/Playstation and other companies who produce games through the PS3 still get a lot of money from the PS3, even though they usually have to pay out for servers (also bandwidth) for people to access online features and services. If Sony/Playstation did decide to shut down PS3's PSN servers they will be pulling a big U-turn to their company, which will quickly and later impact on the profits and sales of their overall publicity, company and the general sales of the PS4 (if people wanted one, they'd go and buy one). I predict that PS3's PSN servers will be up and running for another 5 - 10 years at least (maybe more than 10 years). I have both PS3 and 360 and tbh, I will never upgrade to the PS4, or the XBOX ONE. I am happy with my PS3 and 360.

Really depends on how much they are selling in each country respectively, must have dropped off to a point in NZ where continued production of the console could have been more profitable putting that work towards the PS4 as an example. Like the article states, Japan still sells 2000+ a week.
