You can beat him in NG+ and it makes him a lot easier, but if that character has fought him before you have use a glitch to get back to that area. I must have forgotten that part; sorry. I'm going to link below to info on how to use the glitch, and if you can get it to work then you can use these resigned saves to fight him in NG+. If you cannot get the glitch to work, then use the second link, which shows how you can beat him with a new character (and you can do it!).
This person starts trying for the glitch around 28 seconds into the video, and gets it to work around 47 seconds into the video.

I just want to record that that tip (the first) of using a bug it works but it is not possible to do with a normal dualshock4 ...
It takes turbo control. They are 3 button that practically work in sync and manually, you can climb 3 steps in the maximum (me at least)
With turbo control I believe it is possible.
Anyway, I solved this problem and the platinum fell ...

Glad you got it! I didn't know that about the controller. I'm guessing you beat him with a new character? I'm pretty sure that's what I did too, but it's been many many years so it's just hard to remember clearly. One of these days I want to play the sequel, if I ever have time. Anyway, congratulations!
