Only ever bought a day one console once, the PS2, broken within 6 months. To be fair to Sony though, they did exchange it with no problems. That's why I will always wait at least 6 months before buying one. More so now that Sony will have to up the production numbers to come even close to meeting the demand that is anticipated. I don't believe that Sony will be putting out a weak product, but I can happily hold off til we see some stress tests.
