Speaking to You must login or register to view this content. during a busy E3 week, Andrew House also said that the PS4 would “allow for an aggressive cost-down strategy” over time, giving the company the ability to reach “the broadest mass of consumers that we can.”

House pointed to new revenue streams on the console as a way of ensuring the PS4 returns a profit as quickly as possible, something Sony hinted at back in February but is likely pointing to digital downloads, service-model titles (like DriveClub) and subscription-based games.

A rolling launch is a smart move.
Also that hints production has not started yet.

what is a rolling launch and how does it work? im assuming they are going after the market areas that are dominantly 360 owners like the "US & UK" first since that seems to be Xbox's main consumers, while knowing places like the Asian market will eat the PS4 up.

25th nov release in the USA
30th nov release in the UK
15th dec release in the EU
15th jan release in the rest of the world

Rolling launch is a gradually process of releasing a product into the market. It allows you to avoid supply chain issues , you can also focus on one market at a time any tech issues can be solved before other releases. UK and USA are xbox main markets does have some hold in the EU. Overall the EU area is Sony land followed by Asia. Western markets are a high profit area for console makers, due to the high software rate along with services we pay for.

*Release dates could be a couple of days or months.

AH, ok. but isn't this normally what console manufacturers do anyway? i mean i know they cant usually do a global launch on a set day but they always hit i think US/Japan first followed by UK. what they now need to do is set a date earlier than XO launch, even a week or 2 earlier would help out. i know for me this launch window is not going to effect me because i wont buy the launch release console, time and lessons learned have made me decide on this.

Depends
Sometimes they do other times they don't and do a global release. I believe it still counts as a global release even it a day out due to timezones.
Supply chain sets the release date :p
If you can't make enough consoles no way you can under cut the xbox if they can supply more consoles compare to you. Have faith Sony are going to pick a Nov release over Dec.

I will either travel to US to get them or purchase two here (Argentina) via local gaming stores that can bring them. But I want it as soon as it is released.
South America is also Sony land, for you to take into account @ResistTheSun
