Round 1: Games

As you can see, both of these consoles go punch for punch here. Probably the biggest killers on the Xbox are Forza, Ryse and Titanfall, while on the Ps4 it would be Gran Turismo, Killzone, Planetside and perhaps Infamous and Final Fantasy. Let's not forget the eventual Gears of War for the Xbox either, which has a large fanbase. As well as the Uncharted and God of War series on the Ps4.


Online Subscription:

Xbox Live vs PS+ should be a very interesting, however from a purely experience standpoint, Microsoft has a much more robust and friendly user experience when it comes to online interaction. Xbox Live offers many services that PSN simply does not this generation, I'm sure Ps3 owners all know how it feels not to be able to use cross game chat etc. But don't expect this to be a complete blow out of the water, PS+ comes with some huge innovations such as the sharing and uploading of videos to share with your friends, background downloads (finally) etc. It's going to be a very interesting battle on this front, considering how a majority of Xbox users have become very accustomed to the Xbox interface, I could see many of them wanting to stick with it. On the Ps3 side of things, huge and much needed change is coming to PSN. Both the Xbox One and the Ps4 require online subscriptions. Both have the ability to stream and record gameplay. The only difference I can see here is that Xbox offers a wider spectrum of entertainment via Xbox Live, while Sony focuses more on the gaming front of things, most people should appreciate what both consoles are doing, however it is clear that if you are into gaming and gaming only, PSN looks very promising at this point in time.

For those of you completely complaining about the price, remember this:

Xbox comes with Kinect which is probably why the cost is higher, not only that but it is equipped with some other hardware that you may or may not be aware of that could make a difference in the entertainment side of things, but not so much on the gaming side of things. Both consoles appear to have the same amount of USB ports, however the Xbox One does have an extra HDMI port, one that acts as an input and one as an output. This means that the Xbox One can effectively function as a device that bypasses your cable box, allowing you to do everything all at once in one centralized hub, which could also be the reason why the One is bulkier.

Non-Gaming:

Yeah, the Xbox One and PS4 are gaming consoles, but which one is better in terms of non-gaming? The One will easily allow you to switch from a TV show, to the web, to a movie, to Skype, etc. No switching inputs required. It can multitask just like a computer can, meaning that you can have multiple apps open at the same time saved in the memory waiting for you, instead of having to load them up again. You can plug your cable box into the Xbox One and create personalized channels, pause, record and do so much more that the Ps4 cannot do from what it seems. I also forgot to mention the Kinect, and while it may be more or less of a cult at this point in time, it works well for families and the voice activation are features that I would honestly not mind while sitting on the sofa watching a film. Kinect gaming isn't really that entertaining to more serious gamers at this point, but it can still be entertaining in a group of people (family etc.) and with a new generation on the horizon, I would be expecting some major improvements to Kinect that helps it break out of that sphere into the mainstream.

The Ps4 can use "Playstation Eye". While there is not an incredible amount of information here, expect it to be somewhat similar to the Xbox, as Sony will keep up the fierce competition here. Other than that, there does not seem to by many non-gaming features here, apart from the integration with certain services like Netflix, which are present on the Xbox as well. Amazon will also be present on the Ps4.

Controller:

This is mainly preference. I find both controllers to be excellent for what they are used for, and if it is a repeat of last gen, the Xbox controller will still be more sturdy without the squeaking that can be found on all of my Ps3 controllers. Again, it's preference, so this doesn't really make too much of a difference. However, the Ps4 does come with an innovative touchpd that...well....we don't really know what it's used for now, but I suspect devs will be able to take advantage of it and use it for invintory slots and whatnot for certain games. I still can't really wrap my head around having it there for games, it seems rather uncomfortable to take your hands off the controller and use the touchpad very quickly like that. We'll have to see what they can do with it, hopefully it's well implemented and does not become a failure like the motion controllers that were pioneered by Sony with the release of the Ps3.


Always Online:

The Xbox One requires an internet connection at least once every 24 hours. To me I don't see this as such a big deal, however to others it's the end of the world. It's up to you really, and yes I realize that sometimes the internet goes out. I for one have amongst the worst internet I have ever seen, and I am not complaining about the always online. The truth of the matter is, I haven't touched a disk in ages. I don't want to. I want to have everything on my hard drive and go. Yes hard drives crash, but a crash every 8 years is not going to stop me from committing to hard drives instead of disks. I would like to take a moment to explain what Microsoft is really trying to do. The want to set up a platform like Steam has set up. The shipping costs on physical media are useless. Steam is able to offer huge amounts of deals because they don't have to deal with these stupid costs. Those of you on the PC will really understand this, we have deals on games daily because of this, the DRM model will work, but not to the extent that EA has it. The only real downside is Microsofts decision to force people to go online every 24 hours. If that was abolished and they emphasized digital media over physical media we'd have one hell of a contender for the consumer. The world is moving to the digital realm, I hate having piles of disks to play games on, and I'm sure a heck of a lot of people would agree with me on that. Being able to install the game from the disk and never have to carry the disk with you again is an excellent idea that I hope Sony will implement as well. Try to remember that Sony is allowing developers to make games online only as well.

I also forgot to go more in depth in the Steam-like system that the Xbox One is trying to push. Contrary to popular belief, you can share games with other people. Go on your friends console, sign in, and pop the disk in and you're good to go. This is a system very similar to Steam, which is again, why PC games are often at more discounted prices opposed to their console counterparts. I also forgot to mention the integration of twitch on the Xbox and Ustream on the PS4. Another point of note is how Skype on the Xbox most likely means that you will be able to speak to not only those on console, but those on PC as well while you are gaming.

Oh, and let us not forget that Microsoft has thousands of more servers set up for the purpose of Xbox live, and while Sony is improving theirs, they still do not match up to what Microsoft has on the table at this current point in time.

Developers:

Developers developers developers developers developers, as Steve Ballmer would put it. Microsoft has and most likely always will have developers on their side of the spectrum due to their investments. Expect DLC's and other things to come to the Xbox earlier in some circumstances, as well as having games developed with the Xbox in mind first, then ported to the Ps4 as with this gen. This isn't set in stone though, as developers may start to abandon the Xbox and move to the Playstation, we'll have to wait and see how that plays out. But in reality, developers are one of the most important if not the most important things that can either make or break a console, and if either console gets an early lead, it could spell trouble for the competitor.

Conclusion:

If you are a gamer, and only a gamer it would be difficult to find a compelling reason to purchase an Xbox over the next gen Ps4, but if you are someone who likes to not only game, but be able to plug in your cable box and control it in an all in one hub that does everything, you should seriously consider the Xbox one.

I typed this by myself with facts that I know off the top of my head, apart from the portion of games. This is my opinion and I just wanted to give you guys a real taste of my view on the next gen consoles without jumping on a bandwagon. It's time people sat down and actually thought about what these consoles are meant to do, instead of seeing a meme on the internet and jumping on a bandwagon. Try to keep this conversation civil, respect people's opinions, and please, if you have something to say, use facts to back up your claims.

It does not come with the Playstation Eye, that is sold separately.

You also forgot that GOD OF WAR and Uncharted have a huge fan base on the Playstation.

I am no fanboy of either, but i must admit that this round Sony has won this race hands down.

The simple fact that Xbox has to be always on and have a kinnect to function, is pure bull.
I can understand the fact that it is $100 dearer because it comes with the kinnect, but for me, i like to have the choice.
Why make the end user have something that they don't really need or use?

I have a PS eye, but i only used it twice, and is now in the box, if i want a kinnect, then i should be able to choose to buy it as an accessory.

I'd like to see someone's mum or dad coming into their room a bit upset and shout out "XBOX OFF NOW!" and boom, kid pissed off because it switched itself off...

Also, what happens when they go on holiday? do they have to leave the xbox on? wasting electricity?

DRM Has also a big factor on me choosing PS4 over XBOX One, i know that sony titles will not have it, and we're not sure if third party developers will implement this, but it's a factor to take in consideration.

There is pros and cons in either console, but at the momment, i am afraid to say that xbox has a little more cons that the PS4.

I have owned the Ps3 since day one, I have two now. I do not own an Xbox 360.

Yeah, that's true, I was expecting more on the side of Microsoft anyways, some Gears of War, Mass Effect, etc.
On Sony's side I was expecting Uncharted 4 teaser trailer, like Mad Max.

Microsoft wants to be Steam's shadow but in console. They are not creative by themselves. What is new? Windows 8? That sucks (at least to me), Skype? That I can use in my Android phone and PC? TV Box that I already have? Apps like Smart TV that I already own or you can have in PC.
If all the effort to put this shit into it, was turned to gaming things, they would have made a machine able to compete with PS4, but they spent a lot of time including stuff that we already have.
They've done a nice job to creating a console not worth buying so we can decide easily what to take, Sony's PS4.



The basic bundle, that doesn't come with games. I am going for the full bundle, Standard Bundle + 1 Game + PS Eye. Still more cheap than Shitbox.



PS4 has almost no cons dude. Shitbox has plenty.

You got for a fact that if they've shown a teaser of God Of War or Uncharted the votes towards PS4 would be much higher or people would be more enthusiastic about it.

By the way, you should also take into account that Microsoft is including now Blu-Ray in their console, which Sony did it since PS3. The point is, they are making Sony win profits as they are the creators of Blu-Ray. U mad Microsoft?
