(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Rumour has it that Sony are planning to let users hide their Trophy counts and lists, something that probably should have been an option a long time ago. Not everyone wants everyone else to know what games they’re playing and when, and privacy options are something Microsoft have been particularly good at with the Xbox 360.

The seeds of this rumour come from a “You must login or register to view this content.” and a few snippets of code apparently found in the latest firmware, the pulled (and rather dodgy) 4.45.

We’ve learned from a well-placed source that Sony will introduce more extensive privacy options with the PS4, notably the ability to hide portions of your gaming activity akin to Xbox Live. This has been a requested feature for some time, and quite frankly it’s surprising it hasn’t already been added.

As our source points out, there’s already concrete evidence that points to the inclusion of these privacy features starting in PS3 firmware 4.45. If you do a little digging, API endpoints for “set_privacy_level” and “get_privacy_level” can be found under specific PSN trophy functions. Additionally, all endpoints for grabbing trophy data have been prefixed with “_privacy”.

Given the functionality already seems to be implemented at a network and firmware level, it’s possible we may see these features surface in a later PS3 firmware in the coming months, but if not, when the PS4 drops later this holiday season is a likely bet.

4.45 also offered users the option to hide Trophy notifications, something that can be particularly distracting and are something that at least one developer, You must login or register to view this content. developer Quantic Dream head David Cage, You must login or register to view this content. during a game at all.

Maggbot timeout!
Nice find and hopefully when transitioning to the main menu like in the video it would be smooth unlike what we have today with the PS3 which gets quite choppy :/ I also like the trophy idea as well, lets hope Sony keeps these features coming!

First time I have seen the video, looks great so far! I wonder how much of the stuff on there will be mixed with Facebook? e.g Sharing and chatting to friends. Going to love the PS4 when I get it. I don't really care about showing my trophies, games and so on at the end of the day its a games console and not many personal things can be taken from the data shown on the profiles. Nothing to cause harm anyway..

Nope I'd still prefer the delete trophy feature. If someone goes onto your account then you have not secured your password properly and it would be your fault. If you share your account and someone deletes the trophies, again it's your fault. If PSN got hacked and people's trophies were deleted, then it's Sony's fault. And in that case, Sony should have a back up of your trophies in the last so many days/months and restore it when a hack like that happens.

The back up would also be ideal if your account did get hijacked, you could have a way to get Sony to restore your trophies.

Just saying, unauthorised access to your account would be all your fault usually, I have never got my accounts hijacked. So a delete trophy feature would never be a bad idea to me.

Just saying..

Just saying.... people can be your best friend then the minute they get on your account they can do something malicious so, no i wouldnt like the option still, many reasons as to why be able to delete them is a silly idea, hiding them much better.

Deleting is a good start, but would much prefer a 'turn them off altogether' option. Trophies have ruined gaming for me to some extent, I wouldn't have half the stuff I would have if it had not been for game saves, and I shouldn't feel like I should have to use them...
However, with a delete x % option, where would you draw the line? If something is over 25% you can't delete it? Or less?
Or maybe, they should have an option that allows them to be like the ps plus trials, that you can earn trophies, but they only sync when you have bought the game, maybe something like that would be a good option.
