Over the past few months, Sony has revealed a ton of PlayStation 4 hardware specifications. We know the type of CPU and GPU, we know the RAM and its properties, but Sony never revealed the clock frequency of the main CPU.

The 8-core AMD CPU is based on the AMD Jaguar core, which is a lower power core that usually runs at 1.6 to 2.0 GHz, as it is designed to be used in laptops and low power PCs.

But according to the official FCC filing for the PlayStation 4, which was released yesterday, the PS4 CPU is listed with a clock frequency of up to 2.75 GHZ — far above the usual AMD Jaguar speeds.

Does this mean the PlayStation 4 is even more powerful than we think it is? We already know that the PS4 has 50% more raw horsepower under the hood than its main competitor, the Xbox One.

The listed 2.75 GHz CPU could indicate the “turbo” speed of the processor, while the base clock could be lower. The same FCC filing reveals a power rating of the CPU at just 35 W, which is extremely low for an 8-core CPU. On the other hand, the CPU is a custom design from AMD tailored specifically for the PlayStation 4 console.

Over the past few months, developer have praised the PlayStation 4 and its powerful hardware, and it might turn out to be even more powerful than we think it is.

"AMD tailored specifically for the PlayStation 4"

Haxor!
That true... PS4 is looking good or even great on the Spec front' that will let games run at ease' hopefully less bugs' no lag then...

But if you judge by this Generation games always were better on 360 over PS3 due to EA, UBISOFT, others, preferring 360 over PS3 because 360 was more friendly to use then to port to PS3.

So with this Generation the time to Triangle is the most important thing But a big problem also because' when a game is finish on PS4 they will have a bit of a nightmare trying to port to down to XB3 if they use the PS4's Full Potential...

So in other words' in the years 2014/15 Games will be the same on PS4/XB3 just little differences between them!

In Flames Much?
Still has to deal with a bottleneck between the GPU/CPU.
Unless that has improved not going to get hyped about this.

The xbox one has similar hardware and they are both running on x86 /x64 hardware. It's not going to be any different then a pc game running on a huge variety of different hardware. However there will be a difference just because of the OS they are running on them.

I think it was said that the ps4 is running on a version of BSD? Could be wrong on that. I don't know what the xbox one would be on, I would imagine so variant of windows. And at that point its just gonna come down to what uses more resources.

Either way both consoles should be able to do full 1080 @60 FPS finally.

PS4 BSD custom version no other details.
Xbox one OS based on the Windows kernel, another OS just for the xbox and a hypervisor OS to allow both OS's talk to each other.
