Sony was unable to do this without consent from the companies involved, and they obtained the permission of publishers such as Activision and Ubisoft. Sony seems to demonstrate consistently they know what consumers want. Although the games won't be free, the discount should be well received by gamers.

Great news for those who cant be bothered to wait! Also bear in mind that you will buy the PS3 version as a hard copy, then when PS4 is released you will have a time frame you will be able to buy the game 'igitally' on the PS store at a big discount and what i think makes it a lot better is you can trade the game in.

Not so good for those who want hard copies of their games collection.

Do you know if this only applies to digital versions of games on the ps3? That seems to make sense, but isn't specified in the article.
