I think it saves you the hassle of having to download it when you first power on your ps4. It's quicker since all you do is put it in safe mode, stick your usb in, then it copies to the hdd and installs.

no it just saves a few minutes downloading it, saves any problems, some people wont want to connect to the internet straight away, this allows it.
