TBH I reckon its sincere, every now and again a rival company will give a nod to its competition. The fact mircosoft have a new console out in the next few weeks would make the nod more genuine. I'd also expect something from Sony at their launch.

No I don't think so , I believe they would take that sarcasm , Sony has beaten them. Everything they came out with Sony came out with something better. Better ideas , Making a Change .

Well that's the beauty of the internet we're all entitled to our own opinion.
The fact both consoles are so close in terms of specs, power, size etc would indicate both companies are happy with their respective machine.
Sony hasn't beaten Microsoft, nor vice versa, its the end user who has won, fanboys will argue differently but again its my opinion mate.
