The reason for this is because Sony had shutdown that option for now because of the release of the PS4 today for the EU to ensure PSN doesn't crash like it did to NA Users and goes smoothly. I expect it to be back up and running tomorrow at the earliest and don't worry about if you have gotten a bad code :p

Just enter the code via a PC on the online store and you'll be fine.

I already tried that and it says you "This Prepaid Card cannot be redeem on a PC."

i like the way these news sites say struggle to stay up? it was steady it was just the initial first time start up process that was abit of a hit or miss to get in, people who were signed in found it smooth.

after 2 hours of me trying i managed to sign in xD now i can enjoy this console!
