- Hold PS button until the device menu appears.
- (While still holding the PS button) press circle to exit the menu.
- Press X to resume playing your video (still holding the PS button!).
- Continue holding the PS button until the controller turns itself off.
A little complicated, but it's works, that's the important thing. Here is a video if the text tutorial is a little confusing!

Can you not go into power saving option and choose for it to turn of in like 5 min if it's not used.

Actually the dualshock 3 does the same thing. Awhile ago I was messing around on my PS3 wondering what would happen if I were to hold the PS button for a long time. So I did to find out the controller turns off after about 10-15 seconds. When I figured this out I may or may not have been bored lol. 
Anyways that's awesome to know Alt I've never thought about that. Good job nonetheless!
