Back when Sony was announcing the PS4, they promised that a stunning looking racing game, called DRIVECLUB, would be a release title and that it would be free for PS Plus subscribers, personally I'm not a racing fan, but a free game is a free game, so i thought great, ill give that a go when i get my PS4, but just before the PS4 was released, news emerged that the game would be delayed until early 2014, not a major problem, its only a two or three month wait, but 2014 arrived and news emerged of a further delay, the game wouldn't be released until November 2014, which is a full year from, when it was promised.
Last week we posted here, some release date details and a brand new game play video and today we can post some information about the game itself, including tracks, locations and cars, here is a quote from the the PlayStation Blog:
One of the recurring questions we keep seeing is about the scale of the PlayStation Plus Edition. The simple answer is that with an active PlayStation Plus subscription, you can download DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition, which comes with one location (India), 11 tracks, 10 cars and access to all game modes.
Now you are probably wondering why i have added "Really Bad" to the title of this article, let me explain:
Good
Its free, yay...
Bad
This is a really stripped down version of the full game, the full game contains five locations, 55 tracks, 50 cars and all 50 tour events, which means the PS+ version is basically a glorified demo, you can upgrade to the full version for $49.99, which is a $10 saving of the full retail price, you can argue that it's fine because the PS+ version is free and you can upgrade if you ever want too and save $10, which leads me onto
The Really Bad
Choosing to upgrade with a saving of $10 may be an awesome idea if you really like the glorified demo, but doing so means that you can NEVER get rid of your PS+ subscription as you will loose the ability to be able to play the game you paid $49.99 for, which means that you are not paying to buy the game, but paying to rent the game, so you must pay $49.99 for the game and continue your $49.99 yearly PS+ subscription in order to play a game which you bought, the game which should of course be totally free, here is another quote from the PS Blog regarding this information:
If you’re an active PlayStation Plus subscriber and have been playing the PlayStation Plus Edition, but decide you want the full DRIVECLUB experience, you can purchase a one-time upgrade for $49.99. This will give you access to all five locations, 55 tracks, 50 cars and all 50 tour events, as long as your PlayStation Plus subscription remains active.
If you’re not an active PlayStation Plus member, you can still get DRIVECLUB via the PlayStation Store or your local retailer on Blu-ray.
