A beta for upcoming police-themed FPS Battlefield Hardline will be held on the PlayStation 4, and attending Sony's special "E3 Experience" event next week could be a way to get in, according to a new report. IGN readers who RSVP'd to the event were reportedly emailed a code for the Battlefield Hardline beta as a thank you for confirming their attendance.

The Battlefield Hardline beta will supposedly include "two new game modes" playable on a map called High Tension. Separately, an unspecified "source" told IGN that the Battlefield Hardline beta is indeed real and coming to the PS4. It's unclear if the rumored Battlefield Hardline beta will be exclusive to the PS4 or if PC and Xbox owners will also get a shot at it.

It wouldn't be much of a surprise to learn that Sony and Electronic Arts had teamed up to offer PlayStation players exclusive Battlefield goodies. After all, every expansion for Battlefield 3 came to PlayStation 3 first.

Announced last week, Sony's "E3 Experience" brings a live-stream of the company's E3 2014 press conference on the evening of Monday, June 9 to movie theaters across the United States and Canada. Sony previously teased that attendees would receive a special bonus gift, and it's now looking likely that the Battlefield Hardline beta could be that exact gift. You can sign up to attend at the "E3 Experience" website.

Battlefield Hardline is currently in development at Dead Space studio Visceral Games. New gameplay footage for the title leaked out earlier this week, and EA will show off the game in greater detail during its E3 2014 press conference next week. In addition to Battlefield Hardline, Visceral Games is working on a new Star Wars game, led by former Uncharted creative director Amy Hennig.

If this is true, I'm sure the beta won't be good. I've had my doubts for Battlefield since the start and that proved itself in Battlefield 4. Honestly, I'm not hyped for this in any way...would prefer a new FPS to come out that dominates COD and BF.

I hope there is another way to get into the beta outside of this and/or preordering a game.

I do know the beta was leaked onto the PSN Store for a short time a few days ago, but by the time I found out about it, Sony had already pulled it.
