An ITV spokeswoman has claimed the offensive error message was probably the work of tech-savvy hackers, denying it was planted by an employee, or that it is part of the app itself. You must login or register to view this content.
A shocked teen and his family is upset after his PlayStation 4 using the ITV Player app, went and told the teen watching to please go 'F***' himself, instead of normal error message when the stream was broken via either a slow or missing internet connection.
David, from Barry, Wales said: "I was so shocked."
"I was at my friend's house and he has five young brothers and sisters living there ranging from one to five years-old. They could have seen it and copied it."
"I called ITV about it, and they said something must have gone wrong online and I shouldn't use the app on my Playstation and to stick to it on the computer instead."
"But I've been using my Playstation to watch TV for years, it just seems like a bad excuse."
The teenager was watching Judge Rinder. He continued: "It didn't disappear, I had to click 'x' to get it off the screen, and any of the little ones could have walked in."
"We were all pretty distressed, it's never happened before."
"It was probably someone from ITV messing around, but little kids could have seen this."
David was watching the programme via his Playstation 4 - where users can log on to the internet via the console and watch TV via the ITV website. The bizarre message flashed up 23 minutes into the show. It appeared to be an altered version of text which usually pops up when internet connections are too slow to show a programme, or it has been removed.
A spokeswoman from ITV said it was not generated by anyone at the company, and said a hacker could have accessed their player through the Playstation network.
She said: "We have investigated this issue and the message has not been generated by the ITV Player service."
"We have not had any other reports of similar messages appearing on any other ITV Player service."
So do you believe the ITV's cover story that 'hackers' somehow got into the kid's PS4 console?
