Sony has finally confirmed one of the worst kept secrets in the company’s recent history, something we all knew heading into this weekend’s PlayStation Experience. PlayStation 2 emulation is here, and eight games have been confirmed to be available at launch tomorrow.

First up, here are the games and their prices.

Dark Cloud — $14.99
Grand Theft Auto III — $14.99
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City — $14.99
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — $14.99
Rogue Galaxy — $14.99
The Mark of Kri — $14.99
Twisted Metal: Black — $9.99
War of the Monsters — $9.99

All are great choices, so here’s a quick rundown. Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy cover half of Level 5’s excellent PlayStation 2 library, minus Dark Cloud 2, which has already been classified, and Dragon Quest VIII of course. Square Enix isn’t going to let us have that one so easily. Both Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy are fan favorites and were frequently requested back on the PlayStation 3 to no avail. Definitely the highlight of the list.

The Mark of Kri is a stealth action game with a musclebound main character who looks like he came straight from a Disney movie. The joy of this game is seeing all of of his violent kills in this cartoony art style, and the new resolution boost can only help. I remember many called this the “Sleeper Hit of 2002,” but I was always on team Way of the Samurai. This game is already available at as PS2 Classic on the PlayStation 3.

War of the Monsters is a solid monster fighting game, probably the best Godzilla game ever made that he didn’t star in. It too is already a PS2 Classic.

And of course, all three Grand Theft Auto games are available because Rockstar never has a problem profiting from the series’ legacy. Has Rockstar become the new Square Enix?

So of the eight games that have been confirmed, two were not PS2 Classics and six were. I like what I see from this list so far, but I am not a fan of the pricing in the least. It’s a bit on the expensive side, and it doesn’t account for if you already bought the games on the the PlayStation 3 or not. $15 is too much for a resolution boost and the convenience of playing on a new system. I’m glad Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy are getting a shot, but I won’t be buying the games that are already PS2 Classics unless Sony honors the previous purchase in some way.

I mean, even Nintendo offered a sharp discount for a Wii U Virtual Console game if you already purchased it on the Wii. You don’t want to be behind Nintendo when it comes to digital distribution customer service, do you?

It’s also worth pointing out that outside of Grand Theft Auto, each of these are first-party published titles, so Sony might not have any third-party companies ready for tweaking their classics for trophy support, remote play, and resolution boosts just yet. That’s fine though because Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy are deep enough to keep you busy during the months it takes to get the usual suspects on board.

Parappa the Rapper 2 and King of Fighters 2000 have also been confirmed for an early 2016 release, meaning SNK is already involved. Rockstar and SNK are pretty good when it comes to cooperating with initiatives like this though.

No it really isn't cheap. Especially when you consider that most of these games people already own for a platform they dropped support for years ago. The reason why they do this is because of people like you who roll over the nickel and dime-a-thon. It's their way of saying yea we have ps2 support but you have to rebuy the shit you already bought years ago.

So please explain how $15 is cheaper then $5.
