Ever since No Man's Sky was announced back in 2013 at the Spike VGX awards, the game has looked to be one of the most expansive games of all time. However it being the most expansive game of all time, it will probably be one of the smallest games there has been in modern game releases, in terms of file size that is. Right after Hello Games had their celebrations of their game reaching Gold last thursday, the studio founder Sean Murray revealed on Twitter that the game will only take up 6GB of space on a Blu-ray disk.
Given that you can explore all corners of the universe, to be exact 18 Quintilian planets, you'd think that the game size would be a lot more than 6GB. The games focus will be set on procedural generations that No Man's Sky can be filled with a varied set of environments and still take up such a small amount of space. The file size can remain low because the visual representation of individual worlds and their inhabitants is based on a pool of deterministic algorithms and random number generators.
According to Sean Murray the biggest part of the 6GB will be audio. This makes sense, as it would be much harder to generate sound effects in the same way that environments are being constructed. Also in the game they will feature several different Alien Languages, which will be part of the size of the sounds. Besides that the game will be released August 9th on Playstation 4 and on PC.
Heres the explore trailer to No Man's Sky:
I personally think this game is gonna be a really great game since nothing like this has been ever released before. I really can't wait to get my hands on this game.
