No Man’s Sky has finally been released, and gamers everywhere are exploring its vast universe filled with countless planets and lifeforms. The game is currently out for the PlayStation 4 and will be released for the PC this Friday. Considering how this is a PlayStation “exclusive,” one would believe that PS4 and PC players would be able to play together. However, it turns out that the PS4 and PC versions of the game will run on different servers.
In case you didn’t know,
No Man’s Sky lets players name locations and creatures they discover. Once players find something that was previously undiscovered, they’ll have a chance to name it. Users can then upload their discoveries to the game’s Atlas for others to see. However, since the servers for the two versions of the game are separated, it means that players will only see discoveries from others playing on their specific platform.
Though Hello Games has previously said that — given the sheer size of the universe — it would be extremely rare for players to ever meet in the game, knowing that there are two distinct and separate
No Man’s Sky communities does come as a somewhat of a disappointment. While each game is complete on its own, it isn’t a grand unified universe like we might have wanted. Games like
Rocket League and
Street Fighter V allow users on both PC and PS4 to play with one another so it is baffling that
No Man’s Sky keeps them separate. This fact won’t affect the game in the long run, but it is still a bit of a bummer.
