Hi im new but i do know how to copy saves from the xbox hdd to another computer or harddrive, i use xsata and xplorer 360 but you can use a dtael transfer kit. this is a tutorial i got off another site this is not mine.
Xplorer360 mainly targets gamesave exchange, thats why it was implamented into the XSATA product. It allows you to explore your hardrive as if it was in your computer, system files can be edited and backed up and so can dlc (download content). (DLC editing, is an example of modding the new maps on halo2 which this allows you to do. haven't ever modded before? would like to try it? xsata will allow you to extract .maps (DLC) and put them back on) it also allows you to extract saves, achievements, and yes even your favorate demo for editing. you can even take your favorate arcade game and load it on a disk, causing the xbox360 to unvail your burnt media in xbox arcade. hope that pretty much sums it up in short its used for
-backing up
-restoring
-editing
-exchange
Section 1. (getting started using the XSATA chip)
So you just bought your new xsata from your local gamestore eh? looking to dig in? Well lets start by putting in your xplorer360 disk that came with you XSATA (in you pc of course). Simply follow the onscreen instruction untill it is installed (check for the newest updates at 360gamesaves.com). Now with your xbox360 off and your XSATA attached between your 360 and its hardrive, plugin the USB in your pc and run it into your xbox360. now with this accomplished go ahead and turn on your xbox360. You will notice that the hardrive in the 360 will not be loaded or recognised in the memory section in your 360, this is because the computer is currently accessing the hardrive right now. Now load up xplorer360 and click Drive>open>hardrive or memorycard. if your hardrive is detected then everything is setup, if not it will give you a fatx error and its time for you to trouble shoot on your end.
Section 2 (Backing up)
As lovely as the XSATA product and the xplorer360 program is, it has its faults... like allowing you to be able to royal brick your 200 dollar drive just like a computer. but have no fear xplorer360 is here. You are now able to backup your intire hardrive incase of an oopsidasy. simply go to drive backup image and save it somewhere on your hardrive (I strongly recommend you backup your hardrive with the Xplorer360 version that came with your XSATA as the new version has reported backingup/restoring bugs) this can take up to a long time so sit back and watch a few episodes of your favorate tv show untill this is done, make sure the process is not interupted. once done and completly saved, remove the cable from your 360 (with no disk in) it should reboot itself. Now format your hardrive in the memory section. (follow the instructions the 360 gives you). Once formated your hardrive is in a clean wiped state just like you bought it from the store, (OMG!!!! MY GAMESAVES ARE GONE FOREVER!!!!) lol no there not they are on your computer we will restore them later. Now once your hardrive is comfirmed clean and formated go ahead and switch it off plugin the cable switch it back on and go back to xplorer360, now go to backup image but this time put it in a seperate folder so your original does not get overwrote) now go outside and play for a hour or two. once done, take the image you just saved and burn that puppy to a DVD-R or DVD+R perferably one that can hold 4.7 gigs or a dual layer disk (if you have a dual layer burner) and burn that puppy with nero. go ahead and make data disk, and select the xbox360 image and (if it doesnt exceed the disk rate being red, then burn the disk) this can take a while but when done follow the steps and your pc diskdrive should open, take it out, go get a marker and write xbox360 hardrive on it (because thats whats in your hand). now place that somewhere safe, and we are done with that
Section 3 (restoring)
easy as pie, while in xplorer360 go ahead and click restore image to a formated drive (in this case you already formated yours) select the file you first backed up before formating and go outside and play in traffic till its done. thats it, once its done unplug that little cable and WAMBIZZLE! MY GAME SAVES OR BACK OMFGZ YES!!!
