(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I bought a broken xbox, owner said it wouldn't read disc's. I figured easy fix. I get the xbox and hook it all up and i put in my MW2 disc sure enough wouldn't play just said reading................open tray. So i tried my WAW disc and after a few min.'s of the laser moving it started up and i was able to play online and everything. Tried the MW2 still no go. I realized my WAW disc had been scratched and i resurfaced a long time ago, so i resurfaced the MW2 disc and the xbox would recongnize it as a game but the MW2 picture wouldn't come up on the dashboard. It would just say play game press A. Then when it started it took a min. then said the disc was dirty.

I opened the xbox up and cleaned the lens and everything but still does the same thing. As soon as i opened it up i noticed it has a newer lite-on dvd drive the xbox itself was made in 2006 the dvd drive says it was made in 2008. I didn't think it had ever been opened cause the security tag was still intact. I'm guessing someone along the way sent it into microsoft for a dvd drive repair? I played with the laser pot and it helped alot i got the xbox to recongnize MW2 and it showed the picture on the dashboard but still would say the disc was dirty. Other games it would take a min. but they would eventually play sometimes the dirty disc error would come up.

I'm guessing the laser is bad would i be correct thinking that?

And if the dvd drive isn't flashed for the xbox it wouldn't play or work would it? I didn't think that was the problem since it would play games if you played around with it for awhile.

Sorry kinda long Smile

If the DVD drive isn't compatible with the xbox, it could not function correctly. Unless there was some software or hardware update for your xbox 360, compatibility problems cannot be fixed. You would most likely have to send it in to microsoft and have the software updated/compatibility fix, or just have them replace the DVD drive. If the laser has no scratches or dents in it, it should be fine. However the laser may not send the information on the disk to the DVD drive correctly.

Hope this helped a bit Winky Winky

That does help alittle thanks. I bought another 360 and i'm going to resell this one since after all the drive is brand new and it log's onto xbox live fine and everything. Must need just reflashed is all i figured it had been sent to microsoft since it had the newer bigger warranty seal on it. I mainly bought it for the cables anyways and the slim chance i could get it to work but i don't have the equipment for a reflash of the drive.

my xbox itself was made in 2006 the dvd drive says it was made in 2008

I tried cleaning the laser lens off too that didn't work. BUT i put a new laser in and adjusted the pot where it needed to be for the lite-on drive and it fired right up Smile hell of a deal that's for sure.

our xbox does the same thing. I called a local repair guy and he said could need a laser replaced or the whole drive. Local guy said it's $40 to get it fixed. Pretty cheap considering. Happy

That's not bad either. Laser is 10 bucks and have someone fixed it for ya isn't bad at all.

yeah, the guy locally here is pretty reasonable and turns around your console within 24 hours. I used him to fix our PS3 as well a few months ago.

either dust on the lens or you will need to preform a pot-tweak, this is for mostly older/VERY used 360s, where the laser has become weak and you need to tweak the resistor to send more power to it to bring it back to its stock strength
