Post: New Xbox Shuts off to Prevent RROD

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); We found out that Microsoft stopped using the red ring error system and they combined the chips, reduced to one heat sink, and reduced to one fan. The actual issue that showed the RRoD could still happen, but Microsoft had added something else in to prevent it.
This is from an article on destructiod.com:

It's become a common joke that the new Xbox 360 Slim prevents Red Rings of Death simply because Microsoft took the red lights out. However, it's been revealed that there is a real preventative measure built into the Slim, as opposed to a simple aesthetic avoidance of the issue. The new Xbox 360 SKU voluntarily shuts itself down if it's not ventilating properly, in a bid to avoid damage from overheating.

If the 360 detects that it isn't getting enough ventilation, it will give the player a warning message before entering shutdown mode, whereupon its power light will flash. The system can then be switched on again once the light ceases to flash. The idea is to increase the lifespan of the console by powering down before it gets too hot and suffers internal damage.

A smart idea in theory, but one wonders how annoying a 360 that shuts itself down will be, especially if Microsoft hasn't fixed the issue of overheating in the first place. Has Microsoft fixed the RRoD only to replace it with an even more embarrassing and widespread problem? We'll have to wait and see just how often this shutdown feature needs to kick in before we know for sure. I just have a bad feeling about this, given Microsoft's commitment to making terrible things happen.

I had 4 different xbox 360s give me the RROD before I switched to the Elite, and got it again after they told me the elite does not have that problem (this was when elite first released.) I got the slim now so hopefully I won't run into problems! I kind of like the warning idea lets you know how to keep your console working longer. Things never last forever ya know haha.:p

Yeah but try andf under stand it's a woaring saying that it's not being ventilated enough, so when you get it, if you get it, do as it says wait for it to cool down and then move it to a better ventilated place, and not between you Sky HD box, and Blue ray player, in a cubord, that has the boler in ther as well.

Do you see how it can work out for you, this way it shows you that it's not the right place for your xbox, move it and see if it is that time, then you don't need it to be fix as much.

lol @ as much
