DAMN that is a lot of dust. I opened mine to try and fix the RRoD after 2 years of use and it didn't have even close to that amount of dust.

I was fixing one for a friend one day, I opened it up and it was literally under a layer of dust. You could NOT see the mobo. It was the first time it was opened in 5 years and he got sick of it over heating after half an hour. So he asked me if I could fix it. I fixed it and he was all like "WTF Did you do?!" I told him to blow the dust out over 3 months and it'll continue to work fine and good.

Of course it can happen to a PS3, any electronic device will attract dust, Sony even recommends you clean it out with a vacuum every 3 months. Mines do for one now that I think about it. Winky Winky
