Xbox Live Studios boss, Jerry Johnson commented that the fall update this year will improve the sound quality of headsets"
The code they used at launch of Xbox Live was a low rate codec.Since then Microsoft has stuck with that code until now.Releasing this fall the fall update will improve the sound quality of headsets over Xbox Live.Around the same time as the release for Kinnect.
"It's time for us to move on," he continued, "Especially if we want to think about broadening - a crackly headset on the top of your head not what people think of when they talk about popular entertainment."
In short, when that little kid from down the street shouts, "Mom, not now, I'm one kill away from a Killing Frenzy!!" over Xbox Live, it'll sound like he's in the same room as you, rather than him sounding like he's got his head stuck in a paper bag and is hitchhiking on the M1.
Actually, I'm not sure that's such a good thing... Too bad he won't be close enough to slap though.
This is good especially if you have a wired mic.
