Wonderful question, I have no answer though. Plus if it was a box, I'm sure it'd look really ugly and no one wants an ugly console. But I still don't understand the "X" and "Box".
if you want to know how it would look like as a box, just take a look at the Gamecube. It looks lame which might be why Microsoft went for the rectangle look. hmmm
The reason for the name (especially for the 360 is this) is what I think.
X= The dumb x-clamp design Microsoft did (see below) You must login or register to view this content.
BOX= Its just like any box, it has to be opened at least once for one to be able to enjoy it (as in microsoft has to open the box and fix it so you can play with it, just like mommy and daddy did at Christmas time so you could play with the new toy
lol ok i dont know why its named that either...its late and thats my .02 :p
'Cause a rounded rectangle is plain sexier than a square.... and it's called XBox because M$ was trying to be lame and appeal to gen-Xers, even though they were actually "too old" to play games when it launched.
Why is the xbox 360 shaped like a rectangle and not like a box?
hold up...
a box doesn't necessarily have to be a cube
the BOX that you get your PS3 in is not a cube, but it's still a box...
The 360 is a rectangular box...
