ps3 or xbox 360? this is misleading.
If it doesnt read disks for the xbox 360, you need a new disk drive, same goes for the ps3 you need a new blu ray driver if it has broke.
Or it could just be your disks

Sounds like your optical drive is starting to go, as that's how it (ironically) starts on the PS3 as well. Games start to have a hard time reading, then stop reading while movies work, then movies start to have a hard time reading, then stop working.

You should call Microsoft and probably request a coffin, unless you have someone local that fixes consoles.

You could try fixing it yourself, if you think you won't mess it up. I've seen tutorials of people having the same problem and fixing it their selves, but I don't recommend it. I used to have this same problem with my PS2.

I don't advise fixing it yourself to be honest. sure it might be cheaper in the short run, but in the long run if something goes wrong, you'll need to buy a new 360 which is $199 USD +.

I'd just call MS and tell them what's going on. They should give you an estimate on how much it should be to fix it. I wouldn't imagine it costing more than $150 USD, but even then if it was going to cost that much, I'd just add another 50 to it, buy the new sexy 4GB Slim, take my HDD out of the old one, and hack it into the Slim. Take the old broken 360 and sell it for parts.

That's just me though.
