Post: Kinect is causing RROD

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Unfortunately the Kinect motion detection peripheral appears to be causing some potential problems on the original Xbox models. As we all know, the new model was launched alongside Kinect and even come packaged and fully optimized for the peripheral. In the Christmas rush to purchase Kinect, a new problem with the compatibility appears to have surfaced. The Xbox Forums have had loads of activity with Xbox owners claiming that their older models from 3-4 years back have got RROD after plugging in their new Kinect. Here is one such users problem:
I have an original xbox dating back to 2006 – so out of warranty by a year now. At the weekend I spent £130 on a kinect and a further £30 on Dance Central, so when I got home I excitedly plugged it into my xbox… … however within 5 minutes it froze up and when I turned it on again it had the dreaded 3 red rings showing. Since then it has failed to turn on at all. I have done the power supply test on the support site (knowing that wasn’t the problem) and then I called Xbox support. The guy was helpful and felt sorry for me and admitted that it did appear to be casued by the Kinect, but as it was not a known problem it would not be covered and I have to pay the £82 standard charge to get it fixed (or £62 via net support). My Xbox is not worth this being nearly 5 years old!!
This was posted by many users confirming this problem of critical failure, saying that their Xbox was not running hot or experiencing any other warning signs. Hopefully this can be fixed before too many Xbox’s get bricked.

So sorry to hear if you have an old Xbox you probably might want to wait until there is a statement about Kinect to do with the old Xboxes.

i have 5 xboxs 3 of them have rrod and open tray errors, then the 2 of them that work one says open tray half the time and my 2nd xbox has to be run without its case on and a desk fan on top of it! the graphics have also gone crappy!

2 of the xboxs got rrod when the dashboard update come out both xboxs at the same time!

i have 2 ps3's also i have had mine since the day of launch and it has never had a fault, never not read discs and never had ylod.

my freind bought a brand new ps3 12 months ago and just out of warrenty ylod after a update so i bought it for £20 just for the bluray player incase mine ever goes!

:bye:

Now my thoughts are that the companys have some sort of backdoor into the xbox and can create the rrod.

My xboxs have had the boards reheated professionally and this still didnt fix the rrod, yet microsoft still insist if i send them the consoles it can be repaired 100%? What does microsoft do different to any company to be able to fix the consoles.

same with sonys update that stopped madcatz controllers its just the same old crap with both the companies, all i hear is xbox this ps3 that! we need a new competitor in the market that does have some bullshit light of death!

make us a ****ing console with no damn lights on it!
