This week Kevin White boils the war between the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 down to the motion control experience, and argues that Microsoft is the clear winner.

The Xbox 360 is a much better console than the slow PS3. Owning both puts me in a position to make this judgement, so let me get to my point.

For me, the new war between the two devices comes down to the motion sensor gaming experience, so to help me make my decision, I purchased both Kinect and Move.

I'll start with the price. With Kinect I can have two player co-op games for £129. With Move the starter pack cost me £42, but now I need co-op and have no bundled game. So £40 for the game and I still need another Move controller and two of the add-ons, which in total comes to more than Kinect.

Now, on to the set-up. Kinect: I plugged it in, waved my hands and, hey presto, I was done. Next, Move: I took it out of the box, charged it, waited an hour and did a silly config set-up that didn't even tell me it had worked. Only then could I try it out.

Put a game in my Xbox and I'm playing in seconds. Good. Time for the Move. Right, only got a demo disc, so I pop it in. Damn - I need to install each demo. Why can't I just play it from the disc, Sony? So I install all the demos and now I've got to configure the Move for each game. Arrgggh!

In short, my first experience of Move made me want to trade my PS3. Sure, time and quality games will be the long-term deciders, but for the moment, Kinect and Microsoft are winning by a country mile.

Sony really need to give you the option of installing games to the console or playing from the disc. You have the choice on 360, so you can either play a game straight from the box or install it for faster load times. If I wanted to mess around installing games I'd have bought a PC.

PSM3 says: It's classic Sony, really - an edgier product, but confusing to set up and lacking killer software. While Move is cheaper if you want to play alone, motion-control gaming is, usually, better with friends.

It's fair to say that Kinect has problems in terms of the space required for it to work properly and the lack of quality launch games available. But, yes, data installs are a pain on PS3.

That's down to the speed of the Blu-ray drive - devs need to dump data onto the HDD to cut load times. The trade-off is that you can play Blu-rays movies: something Xbox can't boast. Give Killzone 3 a whirl with PS Move, perhaps, and see if your views soften on PS3.

CVG says: While we certainly won't defend the PlayStation 3's lengthy download and install procedures we will say that boiling which one is better out of the two down to just their respective motion control experiences is a mistake.

We're lovers of all games and consoles so we won't condone the bickering (even if we do enjoy jumping in there once in a while) but focusing on one part of what each console offers as a way to judge them on the whole is probably a bad move.

We're fans of both the PlayStation Move and Kinect and have enjoyed many a gaming session with both. Sure, both have their foibles and idiosyncrasies, but we love them regardless and are looking forward to more games for both.

Also, don't knock PC gaming fella. Some - including a few of us - would argue it is the best gaming platform out there.
