Just as expected following the leak earlier today, a new Halo game called Halo: Reach was announced by Bungie at the Microsoft E3 press conference. Only a trailer for the game, expected in 2010, was shown but it did suggest that this might be a prequel to the original Halo -- perhaps following the events of the Fall of Reach novel?
This was all following a gameplay demonstration of Halo 3 ODST, coming September 22. You'll play as characters called "The Rookie" and "Dutch" with a number of new elements being added to the Halo formula. This story-driven campaign that takes place prior to the events of Halo 3 will feature things like a low-light visor and several silenced weapons. Fans of the original Halo's pistol will be happy to know a powerful, scoped pistol will be included. A new co-op mode called "Firefight" will be shown this week at E3, though any details of what it actually entails are unknown at this point.

As an added bonus, people who buy ODST will get an invite to a multiplayer beta of Halo: Reach. That'll be sure to help drive sales -- as if ODST needed any help in that area.
