Not 100% what the problem is but something on the new update breaks the old 360s so if you have this problem give them a call.
And they will replace it with a 250gb slim elite along with 12 months free live YAYYY lmao.

Found this out today when it happened to me, i took it to gamestation and they told me this so i gave microsoft a call and woop new xbox on the way.
Im from UK so not sure whether this is the same in other countries but i dont see why not

it allows the Xbox to read Microsoft's new disc format, which is a gig or so bigger.

just tell them it wont update and when your update fails you shoud get a status/error code just give them the last 8 digits and then you should go from there
theyll just ask you for your adress blahblah and they give you a date to come swap it
