Yes it's instantly. It charges your credit card, then if your card accepts the charge, you get what ever you paid for. Thats why if I ever see a good deal for gold on XBL, I take it (I'm living off 1 Month Gold for $1 for the past 4 months).

Yeah I always turn that off as soon as I renew.

Log In
Click on the "Account" button
Under Xbox Live, there will be a thing that says "Automatic Renewal: On (Change)
Click the change button. And turn it off.

Of course you can turn it off. Microsoft can NOT force you to buy something. If you are having trouble with finding it, then you can just call Xbox at 1-800-4MYXBOX. They can do it for you, and without having to listen to the automated lady that talks to you, then just skip it all by saying "Xbox Live" then say "Billing"

A couple of months ago the only way to turn it off is by calling customer support and that shit takes about 20mins
