The sequel will involve the aftermath of an apocalyptic pandemic that created a number of zombie-like human mutants, forcing the few survivors to fight their way through the hordes to extraction points, using safe houses along the way to rest and recover. Out of all the new great features the game promises though, these have to be the top ten most exciting ones. November 17th can’t come soon enough!

1. Storyline

The first Left 4 Dead didn’t really have a storyline as such, it was vague and all you knew was that 4 survivors were going through hell on earth. The second promises a much deeper storyline linking the events of the first and what not. We might also get to find out what caused the virus in the first place, 28 Weeks Later anyone?

2. Guns

Every FPS game needs guns, and we all know that LFD only had a small selection, of ways to kill the living dead. The sequel has many more ways, as you’ll come across AK47’s, new Shotguns, a Grenade launcher, and indecenery rounds, HK G3/SG1 and many more. This all helps to add variety to the game with you pondering what your next kill will be with.

3. Characters

Everyone loved the characters in the first Left 4 dead ranging from the old heroic army veteran Bill, to the Businessman Louis. However it looks as if more classics are on the way with some great new additions in the new group of survivors. The survivors include Coach, a high-school football coach; Rochelle, a news reporter for a local television station; Ellis, a mechanic; and Nick, a gambler and conman.

4. Special infected

In addition to the returning special infected, Valve has promised 3 new classes of grotesque mutation to fear. The Charger is designed to counter groups of survivors who stick tightly together when moving through the level. The Charger is like a weaker Tank, but uses its giant arm to crash into the middle of the group, scattering the players like nine pins and allowing them to be more easily picked off. The Spitter is designed to combat campers, as she will shoot a stream of toxic goo that will decrease survivor health if they are stood in that area. There’s also more to come with one left unannounced.

5. Campaigns

There’s loads more campaigns on their way, finally, with players asking desperately for more this should be their relief call, for a while anyway. Valve recently revealed a brand new campaign for Left 4 Dead 2, which is set in an amusement park. There’s not much fun going on at this funfair though and the Ferris wheels and hot dog.

6. Melee Weapons

The L4D2 development team has had the same desire as me, as they have decided to include melee weapons alongside the more conventional pistols and shotguns. You will now be able to use frying pans, axes, chainsaws and bats to take out the horde, which should lead to some truly comic moments as head and limbs going flying.

7. Even nastier director

Not content with placing enemies at the most inconvenient of places, L4D2 will now adjust the level design for every level. So on your second play through of a level, you may find that handily placed cover point is nowhere to be seen, and now there’s a nice little surprise waiting for you.

8. New normal infected

In addition to the new special infected, certain variants of the special infected will be present. Examples of this include HAZMAT infected whose suits make them impervious to fire, ‘Mudmen’ who will inhabit the swamp lands and are sure to be a pain due to their ability to attack from below, and riot gear infected who are much tougher to take down.

9. You have to work as a team even more so!

As aforementioned the director promises to shake things up a bit. However Valve has also said that the old tactics won’t work anymore, for example hiding in a corner constantly whacking the infected, was a vital tactic on expert in the first game. Do that now and a charger will spawn, causing havoc. New tactics and working as a team are in order then!

10. Versus mode is back

Imagine now with all new special infected how much chaos versus will be. Surely the survivors won’t stand a chance, unless you have a very well thought our strategy, to avoid all the new danger. Does this mean you can take control of a Charger and Pile driver your opponents? We’ll have to wait and see.

Here is also the 6 new close combat weapons and what are they:
Close combat weapons are introduced in Left 4 Dead 2. The weapons are found at random points in the game (Any weapon can be obtained by any survivor when found), you cannot use any other weapon until you drop the close combat weapon. According to Valve, these weapons do little to no damage to some Special Infected. The only one mentioned was the Witch. However, it is widely assumed that this applies to the Tank as well. These weapons can kill Common Infected in one hit, and can even kill multiple infected in a single swing. According GI the Witch can be killed with a single shot from the axe if placed in the back of her head.

* Axe
* Baseball Bat
* Chainsaw
* Cricket Bat
* Frying Pan
* Katana [All of these are 1 hit to common infected]
