Banned
I dont really know about Xbox but really no way you can get banned for changing a hard-drive in a console unless you wanna JTAG or something. Anyway as far as I know changing your HDD to a bigger one you can never get ban.

Just buy an old Xbox 360 HDD external then buy the housing unit off of amazon.

I doubt that, don't see how they would know you purchased and installed a new hard drive, if anything, it's still an upgrade. But if you want to be safe, get an official Xbox hard drive and replace it.

That isn't true.

I am using my hard drive from my original Xbox in my Slim. Also have an External connected to my Slim. Online just fine.

Expect the unexpected!
You can not use your own 2.5" SATA drive, they have to be in a case for them to fit in the console!

As cryptic said you can use the older style connected with a HDD Transfer cable!
