There are some things to know before Microsoft rolls out the update for your devices in the future because of DirectX 12:

40% of all DirectX 11 hardware will be DirectX 12 ready day one
About 65% of the NVIDIA computing market will be ready
NVIDIA supports all DirectX 12 updates on their DirectX 11 products belonging to the Fermi, Kepler and Maxwell chipsets
Dramatic increases in visual quality through a significant decreased CPU overhead
The ability to directly manage resources, state, and performance necessary with synchronization and gives developers advanced application controls for the GPU
Both NVIDIA & AMD Radeon cards are supported
A preview of DirectX 12 is available later this year
Xbox One is expected to receive a 50% performance increase though it's not known when it will come out
Mobile device support
This will cause the devices that are able to run the featured software performance increases in gaming and business applications. It will change the industry to make it more easy to access gaming performance to those with low end systems, and because of Kaveri like chips (APU's and SoC units) / Mantle we will see which graphics API developers run on. The competition from AMD's Mantle will make Mircosoft think about updating it's software standards more often and competition is going to rise as technology and software becomes more powerful with each release. Nvidia recently released a "5-70%" performance increase driver update that covers their products, so the market race is on to see which company delivers the best performance per dollar. It will take software and hardware optimization to win the consumer and the choice they make before they upgrade.

It's sad that Microsoft has to roll this out. I really believe that once Microsoft caught wind of Sony coming out with a next gen system 2013, they scrambled and put together one giant piece of shit. (Don't get me wrong, it's an alright system, but it's like they didn't give it any time.)

Yeah well I've had my PS4 on for several days, and it's fine. Never has been hot. I literally infamous for almost 12 hours, with a pause every now and then, and it was fine. So big and bulky and squared isn't necessarily needed like all of you think. Not to mention a new cooling device has been released for the PS4, but I won't get it because I am pretty sure I won't need it.
