The PlayStation 3 emulation scene has reached another massive milestone. The developers behind RPCS3, the popular open-source PS3 emulator for PC, have announced that 80% of all tested PlayStation 3 games are now classified as playable, marking a significant achievement for one of the most ambitious emulation projects in gaming.
In a post shared on X, the official
RPCS3 development team
celebrated the achievement, revealing that improvements to CPU, GPU, and PlayStation Move emulation have helped push even more games into the emulator's Playable category.

The announcement also teased additional major updates before the end of 2026, suggesting that RPCS3's impressive progress is far from over.
More Major RPCS3 Updates Coming in 2026
Despite reaching the impressive 80% milestone, the RPCS3 development team has made it clear that it isn't finished improving the emulator.
In its announcement, the team stated:
"We've released lots of major updates this year, but 2026 isn't over yet - we have even more coming soon!!!"
Although the developers haven't revealed exactly what these upcoming updates will include, the announcement suggests that additional compatibility and performance improvements are on the horizon.
With nearly 20% of tested PS3 games still experiencing issues that prevent them from being classified as fully playable, there remains plenty of room for improvement. Future updates could potentially address longstanding compatibility problems, improve performance in demanding games, and further expand support for PlayStation 3 peripherals.
With more updates promised before the end of 2026, the emulator could reach even greater milestones in the coming months.
For anyone interested in revisiting classic PlayStation 3 games on PC, there's never been a more exciting time to follow RPCS3's development.
