Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches tomorrow, Friday October 23, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. There's no PS4 or Xbox One version this time.

If you digitally pre-ordered, you've already had a head start. The campaign has been playable since October 16, and DMZ opened on October 20. Multiplayer is the last piece, and it unlocks for everyone tomorrow.

When does it unlock?

Activision says the full game releases at midnight local time on October 23. That means a rolling launch, starting in New Zealand and Australia and ending on the US West Coast. PC preloads have been open since October 15, so get downloading now. You'll need 115 GB of free SSD space on PC, although you can uninstall the modes you don't play.

Not on Game Pass

This is the big change from the last two years. Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 both launched on Game Pass, but MW4 is a standalone purchase and won't come to the service until Holiday 2027. Buying it digitally on Xbox does get you the PC version too, through Xbox Play Anywhere.

Standard Edition is $69.99 and the Vault Edition is $99.99.

What's in the box

• Campaign: 16 missions. North Korea invades the South, Price is on the run, and Ghost and Gaz are sent after him.
• Multiplayer: 12 core 6v6 maps, 33 weapons and 28 Apex Attachments. There are new modes including Inflation, Hijack and Collateral, plus Kill Block, a Gunfight arena that rebuilds itself every two rounds.
• DMZ: Returns as the third mode, set in the Hajin Exclusion Zone, with its own 70-level progression track.
• Zombies: Not in this one. Zombies stays with Black Ops.

Classic Prestige is back as well. You can choose between Classic, which resets your unlocks for extra rewards, and Regular, which keeps everything.

Switch 2

This is the first Call of Duty on a Nintendo platform in 13 years. It's a native build made with Digital Legends, not a cloud version, and it supports full cross-play and cross-progression.

Warzone

Your old skins and weapons from MWII through BO7 stay usable in Warzone. Hajin and a new Resurgence map called Zodiac arrive with Season 1, but there's no date for that yet.

Are you picking it up tomorrow, or waiting for it to hit Game Pass next year? Let us know in the comments.
