What We Know So Far About the PS4 NEO

Leaked documents and images reveal rumored specs, release date, price, and more about Sony's upcoming console.

Details on the upcoming enhanced PS4, codenamed NEO, have been scarce to come by. With most of the information about the yet to be revealed 4K-console coming from leaked documents and images, Sony has only managed to actually confirm that the console is happening. A release date before the end of the year is probable, as Microsoft recently released their own upgraded next-gen console, the Xbox One Scorpio. Let's take a look at some of the features we expect to see on the PS4 NEO based on what we've learned..

Let's start with the official statements concerning the PS4 NEO made by Sony Interactive Entertainment president and group CEO Andrew House while speaking to Financial Times in which he confirms the system upgrade as well as gives his thoughts on what the NEO is trying to achieve next to the PS4.

It is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4. We will be selling both [consoles] through the life cycle.

According to House, the new console will aim to please "hardcore gamers" with the addition of 4K-support and increased performance. The system did not make an appearance at E3 this year, citing the need to showcase a "full range of the best experiences on the new system that we can".

With rumors swirling since early 2016, it was nice to get an official confirmation.

Will New Games Still Be Supported on Both Versions of the PS4?

Building on from the interview Financial Times conducted with Andrew House, the group CEO added that all games would be playable on each version of the console, original and NEO, throughout the life of the system.

All games will support the standard PS4 and we anticipate all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4.

What are the PS4 NEO's Specs?

While Sony has yet to reveal any specific details about the console, unofficial leaks have floated around the internet in recent weeks regarding all the PS4 NEO has to offer.

The most attractive leak to come around was a 42-page internal document that showcased nearly everything about the PS4 NEO. While the source has since removed the page and there is no validity of the documents, they sure do seem accurate.
